Reliable fleet inspections, worldwide
Overview:
In early 2024, Shannon Technical Services (STS) was engaged by Macquarie AirFinance to deliver comprehensive mid-lease inspection support for its diverse fleet. The project covered six major aircraft types: A320, A321, A330, A350, B737 NG and B737 MAX, across 48 countries. Initially launched as a trial, the programme quickly scaled up due to STS’s strong performance, growing to cover 70 aircraft in year one, with a full portfolio expansion to 140 aircraft awarded for 2025.
Key Challenges Faced:
- Global complexity: 48 countries with differing regulations, maintenance practices and documentation standards; we aligned scope and checklists to local requirements without losing consistency.
- Airline co‑operation: aircraft access and records availability varied by operator and station; we scheduled around local maintenance events and secured pre‑reads to keep visits productive.
- High reporting standards:investor‑ready, error‑free reports were required every time; consistent templates and licensed‑engineer QA ensured clear findings and photos first time.
- Logistics and cancellations: short‑notice changes and weather disruptions, particularly in North America; standby inspectors and flexible travel plans kept programmes on track.
STS Solutions
- Dedicated programme management: a programme manager and Technical Service Managers coordinated allocation, scheduling and communication.
- Qualified global network: locally based inspectors with Airbus and Boeing approvals to control cost and time.
- Robust quality control: licensed engineer reviews and consistent templates ensured polished, correct reports first time.
- Integrated communication: real‑time updates, weekly portfolio summaries and bi‑weekly live tracker calls kept all stakeholders aligned.
Results Achieved
Performance secured the full 140‑aircraft portfolio for 2025, replacing a competing provider. Over 70 inspections were completed in year one, across 48 countries and six aircraft types, with clear, consistent reporting that strengthened fleet condition visibility and investor confidence.
STS Approach and Differentiators
Strong relationships with airlines and operators supported smooth access and better engagement wherever inspections were needed. Flexible global coverage enabled short‑notice deployments to manage last‑minute changes. Rigorous quality control with systematic engineering reviews and clear report templates delivered accurate results. Real‑time trackers, weekly updates and a single point of contact provided full confidence that every inspection was properly managed from start to finish.
